Bio Identical Hormone Therapy

This is an advanced, natural, hormone balancing treatment using chemically identical hormones that offers safe and effective relief from menopausal symptoms.

This isn’t a conventional hormone replacement therapy and therefore does not subject you to the same health risks of traditional HRT.

By using compounds that have exactly the same chemical and molecular structure as the key hormones found in the body, Bio Identical hormones (BHRT) not only liberates you from the intrusive symptoms caused by the menopause but also also contributes to slowing down the ageing process. BHRT are natural hormones that are derived from plant oestrogen’s as opposed to the ones made for traditional HRT, which are made from urine of pregnant horses and other synthetic hormones.

Bio-identical hormones (BHRT) has also been shown to be effective in improving general well being and quality of life.  Theres also evidence in addition with helping with menopausal symptoms that it can reduce your risk of diabetes, tooth loss and cataracts.  In addition it can improve skin thickness, hydration and elasticity and even reduce wrinkles.

There are a number of different types of Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) available. To understand which is the right course of treatment for you we will carry out a thorough blood test and consultation and discuss your symptoms and personal preferences.
Traditional HRT is the standardised and traditional route that the NHS offer to women, NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) Guidelines state that HRT can be prescribed for vasometer symptoms (night sweats, hot flushes, vaginal dryness) for up to 5 years. This would include oestrogen and progestogen to a woman with a uterus and oestrogen alone for women without a uterus. Often SSRI’s will also be suggested for symptoms of low mood (these are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors – a form of anti-depressants) CBT (Cognititive Behaviour Therapy) may also be offered and Black cohosh may also be advised.
There are many issues with this treatment plan as the hormones are synthetic and has caused health concerns for many that include an increased risk of breast and ovarian cancers, DVT, Heart disease. Although this treatment may offer relief of some of the symptoms (hot flushes and night sweats) there is often no improvements in low mood and brain fog, general lethargy and sleeplessness. Side effects can also be problematic, causing weight gain, bloating, digestive problems, mood swings. breast pain, cramps, nausea and depression.
Anti depressants carry their own side affects; nausea, constipation, insomnia, tiredness, weight gain and increased hunger, inability to orgasam, blurred vision and dry mouth.
Black cohosh has very little evidence to suggest its effectiveness and the side effects can include, upset stomach, headache, cramping, weight gain and has been associated with liver toxicity.
Blood testing on the NHS isn’t routinely offered and so there is also a lot of guess work, you may get relief of some symptoms but the side affects and the health risks doesn’t really make this a viable option for lots of women.
The more natural option is Bio-identical Hormone Therapy (BHRT) This isn’t the same as conventional HRT, the main differences are that it provides the body with adequate levels of key hormones like oestrogen, progestogen, testosterone, Thyroid hormones and DHEA, but it does so without the increased health risks.
Bio-identical Hormone Therapy (cBHRT) and Body-identical Hormone Therapy (rBHRT) are similar in that they are made from plant-chemical that is extracted from yams. They both have compounds that have exactly the same molecular structures as the hormones found in the body. cBHRT can be tailored to suit an individuals needs and are only available from a compounding pharmacy, whereas rBHRT comes in more standardised doses but are available on the NHS, so much more cost effective.
With regular blood testing we can ensure you are on the lowest dose for the relief of your symptoms and improve hormone deficiency. We also combine this with whole food organic supplements and a hormone balancing eating plan, which works in conjunction with hormone therapy and some some cases can replace certain hormone treatment.
After your consultant and blood test we will discuss your treatment options and you will be provided with a bespoke treatment plan to suit your needs.
